Crochet

Want to learn to crochet?  Already know how to crochet but would like to expand your knowledge and skill?

Hi, I’m Sara Marsh, a member of the Woman’s Club is also a Crochet Designer and Blogger who will be teaching crochet at the Woman’s Club as well as hosting projects and crocheting along with other members of the group.

About Me

I am one owner of Sunflower Cottage Crochet, a business I and my business partner and best friend, Helen, operate.  Helen is located in the UK and is an amazing crocheter, designer, and blogger as well.  Together, we make Sunflower Cottage Crochet the best place for patterns and tutorials, as well as events such as crochet-a-longs and free pattern events.  If you would like to learn more about Sunflower Cottage Crochet, click HERE to go to the website and join the newsletter for more information.

I have been crochet off and on for about 30 years but the last 7 years I have been going non-stop!  As mentioned above, I started Sunflower Cottage Crochet and quickly invited my best friend online, Helen, to join me, which she did!  We do what we love as passion, hobby, and business!

Lessons

I will teach you from the very basics of crochet–from holding the hook and yarn and making your first chain, all the way to making your first project: a washcloth!

I have video tutorials on YouTube as well, which provide an at-your-fingertips way to learn, which is a great supplement to hands-on learning at the club.

Don’t have yarn or hooks? I have a TON!  An entire office FULL of both yarn and hooks.  Iwill provide all the extras I have but feel free to bring your own hooks and yarn if you have them!

You’ll also learn how to read crochet patterns and diagrams!  This will make it easy for you to pick up any crochet pattern and hook away!

Projects

The first project for those that are just learning or have only learned the basics but wish to brush up on their skills will be a simple washcloth.  I will provide a lot of 100% cotton yarn (believe me, I have tons…) in all sorts of colors, several 5mm H8 crochet hooks (though I recommend you buy one from your local craft/yarn store.  This is the most commonly used size hook and I do only have about 5 or 6 of them), yarn needles for weaving in the ends, scissors, and time!

The washcloth pattern I will provide is one of my own.  I have quite a few to choose from that are all beginner friendly.  Yes, you CAN use these washcloths as normal washcloths and since they’re 100% cotton, you can wash and dry them in the machines as you normally would.  I use mine all time at my house!

We’ll also discuss doing a larger project for the Club to use as a Raffle Ticket item to raise money for whatever is needed either for the club or for charitable events.

I would love to host some Crochet-A-Longs, which is a project we all work on at the same time that is different from the larger project.  I’ll explain more below.

Charity Projects

A charity project would likely be a blanket we make by each of us doing something simple like Granny Squares or even just a simple square worked back and forth instead of in the round, that we join together.  Each member would make a set number of the squares and bring them to the meetings as they are made.  I will join them together and when it’s all finished, I’ll put the border on it and we can raffle it off for either club funds or a charitable event.

Crochet-A-Long

A Crochet-A-Long (crochet along, CAL) is a group event where everyone gets the same pattern that I will provide (one of my own designs) and we will all work on it together, at the same time.  You will of course, work on your project some at home and bring to the meeting your progress!

I would love to see some progress pictures as you crochet your project–I will share with the site and Woman’s Club all our beautiful makes!

The Facebook page and my own website will also see how amazing you all are with your makes, as I make posts for them in those places.
