Want to learn to crochet or knit? Or both? Already know how but would like to expand your knowledge and skill?
Hi, I’m Sara Marsh, a member of the Woman’s Club is also a Crochet Designer and Blogger and Indie Yarn Dyer who will be teaching crochet and knitting at the Woman’s Club as well as hosting projects and stitch along events with other members of the group.
About Me
I am one owner of Wheat State Wool Co, a business I founded and operate. You can find my patterns on my Etsy shop or on Ravelry (a place to get lots of great patterns for all types of hobbies), and my website, here.
I have been crocheting off and on for about 30 years but the last 9 years I have been going non-stop! I started Sunflower Cottage Crochet and quickly invited my best friend online, Helen, to join me, which she did! After 3 years of working together, Helen bought Sunflower from me and I started Wheat State Wool Co, solo. Helen and I are still great friends, but each wanted different directions to take the businesses.
I now design patterns (still), blog (a little), and dye a lot of yarn that I post for sale on my Etsy shop.
Lessons
I will teach you from the very basics of crochet or knitting (or both!)–from holding the tools and yarn and making your first stitches, all the way to making your first project, which we will all decide on.
I have video tutorials for crochet on YouTube as well, which provide an at-your-fingertips way to learn, which is a great supplement to hands-on learning at the club.
Don’t have yarn or tools? I have a TON! An entire office FULL of both yarn, hooks, and needles. I will provide all the extras I have but feel free to bring your own if you have them!
You’ll also learn how to read crochet and knit patterns and diagrams! This will make it easy for you to pick up any pattern and stitch away!
Projects
Our first project will be something we decide on as a group that everyone is interested in making. This could be anything from simple washcloths to granny squares that we join together to make a blanket!
Charity Projects
A charity project would likely be a blanket we make by each of us doing something simple like Granny Squares or even just a simple square worked back and forth instead of in the round, that we join together. Each member would make a set number of the squares and bring them to the meetings as they are made. I will join them together and when it’s all finished, I’ll put the border on it and we can raffle it off for either club funds or a charitable event.
Crochet-A-Long / Knit-A-Long
A Crochet-A-Long or Knit-A-Long (CAL/KAL) is a group event where everyone gets the same pattern that I will provide (one of my own designs) and we will all work on it together, at the same time. You will of course, work on your project some at home and bring to the meeting your progress!
I would love to see some progress pictures as you stitch your project–I will share with the site and Woman’s Club all our beautiful makes!
The Facebook page and my own website will also see how amazing you all are with your makes, as I make posts for them in those places.
