Woman's Club Website

The Woman’s Club website is being updated. In a week or so, take a look at womanscluboftopeka.com. The Home page menu will take you to 12 sections. Let us know if you have trouble finding the information you’re looking for.

Sara Marsh manages our website and is completing the updates.  Thank you, Sara, for all you have done to make our website current, easy to navigate, and a source of information for our members and the public!!

Fall Coffee and Fashion Show

Our Fall Coffee and Fashion Show in September was a success!

There are pictures throughout the Chatterbox of our models in their chosen outfits from Dillard’s.  We thank Phyllis Kelly and Dillard’s for organizing a great fashion show for us. We also thank the models for their willingness to participate in the event.     Enjoy the pictures!

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Because of the increased need for food in our community, we will be collecting nonperishable food items for Doorstep between November 7 and mid-December. Please participate in this needed community service project. Thank you!

BLUE MOOSE FUNDRAISING EVENT

Plan to eat at the Blue Moose on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11, anytime between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. The Woman’s Club will get a percentage of everyone’s meals on that date. Eat out for the Woman’s Club!

GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETINGS

The Holiday Brunch is on Thursday, December 4, 10:00. The Washburn Rural Choir will serenade us with “Holiday and Christmas Songs,” and we will have a lovely brunch. You are encouraged to invite guests to attend with you. Make reservations by Monday noon, December 1. Cost is $15.

There is no General Meeting in January due to the possibility of winter cold, snow, and ice. Stay safe!

On February 5, 10:00, Jim Kelly, Interim Production Manager at KTWU, will speak on “Festivals in Kansas – Always a Fun Time.” Jim Kelly is known for his entertaining and interesting programs, and this one may inspire us to venture to various Kansas communities. Be sure to be here to hear Jim Kelly speak and to talk with others during lunch.

Rentals are important!

Rentals of our building are a major source of income for the Woman’s Club. Please consider renting the Woman’s Club for your larger personal gatherings or for other groups to which you belong.

TEAM NEWS

  • Hand and Foot

You are always welcome to play Hand and Foot. It’s an easy game to learn, so we will help you learn it the first time you play. We play every Monday afternoon at 1:00.

  • Margaret Hill McCarter (MHMc) Team

The MHMc Team now meets at 11:00. We have short programs and conversations, and may go to lunch together.  You are welcome to attend the meetings, which are held on the second Wednesday of each month.

  • Sunday Mah Jongg

The Sunday Mah Jongg group plays on the third Sunday of the month. The next game is on December 21, 1-4.  Bring $3 in change.

  • Bridge lessons—Success

Seven ladies took bridge lessons with Susan Turner and Paula Harper. We hope they will join some of the Woman’s Club bridge groups. Welcome!

  • Ace of Hearts

We gained two new members for our duplicate Bridge games. Ella Coleman, who is relatively new to Topeka, was taking PT and talking to a fellow PT person who wanted to sharpen her bridge skills and play more often. Ella and Julia Beiker started with the lessons that Paula and Susan were giving. They immediately started to play duplicate bridge. When they learned that they could get a better entry fee if they joined the Woman’s Club, they joined right away.  We are enjoying getting to know them better.

In early October, we had a sanctioned tournament at the Woman’s Club. Two days before the tournament was to begin, the chairperson tested positive for COVID. Paula Harper stepped in and did a great job coordinating everything. The tournament was a financial success for both the Woman’s Club and Ace of Hearts.

  • Gad Abouts
